What is Accelerated Reader?

Accelerated Reader is a software program that provides quizzes on the computers to match books in our school library. After a student has read a book for which we have an Accelerated Reader quiz, he or she can go to any computer and take a quiz over the book. The student receives immediate, individualized feedback about how many questions were answered correctly, and the computer keeps track of the student's reading record.

How do I find AR books?

The Accelerated Reader books in our library are easy to locate. Each AR book has a label on the spine that is easy to see. There is also a label inside the front cover of each AR book that indicates what the reading level is and how many points the book is worth.

  What are the benefits of AR?  

Teachers can print detailed reports about how students are doing and can guide each individual student to improve his or her performance. Parents can quickly see how many books their children have read and how well they understood what they read.

Students are highly motivated to read because they enjoy taking the quizzes on the computers. They read more, and as a result of the additional reading practice, they become better readers.
