KMS Facts

The new Keokuk Middle School opened for students and staff on September 3, 2002 and is located at 2002 Orleans Avenue, adjacent to Keokuk High School. Dedication for the new facility was held on September 29, 2002.  

KMS has a student enrollment of approximately 515 students in grades 6-8. The newly opened, $11.1 million dollar facility is a dual level building with an excellent teaching staff that is dedicated to working with middle school students. This state-of-the-art building is equipped with over 300 computers and 38 laser printers and a computer lab with over $70,000 in current technology for instruction and inservice.

The core subject eighth grade teachers were selected in 2007 to attend the National Middle School Conference and present a session outlining special activities used for motivation. The staff has had middle school training from Iowa State University, has developed a strategic plan, and is currently involved in the ongoing school improvement process through the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan submitted to and approved by the Iowa Department of Education.

Keokuk Middle School was the first middle school/junior high to be recognized by the NCA and awarded the Outstanding Academic Progress by the Department of Education in 1982-1983.
