Band – Josh Hetzel

Band offers students an instrumental music experience and continued growth in music theory, instruction, and performance. This program is offered for credit, and students are evaluated by the letter grade system. The Band program provides students experience in marching band, pep band, symphonic concert band, jazz band, and flag and rifle corps. A summer program is also provided. Choir/Show Choir – Nick McGraw

Vocal music is divided into two main performing groups, concert choir and select choir. Vocal music is open to students who may wish to further their interests in singing. Students may also audition for the K.H.S. show choirs “Purple Harmony” or “Vibrations”. Concert choir is a two-semester course open to all students interested in singing. Major projects include the Conference Vocal Festival in the Fall, the Winter Concert, Pops Concert, and Spring Concert. Students are encouraged to participate in many extra activities such as, state contests, Madrigal Dinner, and various honor choirs. Robe Fee-$7.50

Select Choir is a two-semester course designed to challenge advanced vocal music students. Students must audition. Major projects include the Conference Vocal Festival in the Fall, the Winter Concert, Pops Concert, and Spring Concert. Students are expected to participate in at least one extra activity each semester. Available extra activities include, state contests, Madrigal Dinner, various honor choirs, and other activities throughout the year voice lessons are required. Members of Select Choir are chosen based on sight-reading skill and voice quality.

Show Choir is by tryout. It is a noncredit group who performs at various events and upon request. Emphasis is put upon popular style music and movement. Purple Harmony is a vocal music ensemble that combines singing, costumes, and dance movement for a totally entertaining show. Drama Club –

The purpose of Drama Club is to produce two major three act production. Membership is open to all high school students.

Literary Magazine – Barb Edler

The Purpose of the Literary Magazine
1. To produce a student literary magazine.
2. To train students in writing, proofreading, editing, layout, cartooning, and typing.
3. To encourage student participation in the written arts be it poetry, short stories, reviews.
4. To assemble and sell the Literary magazine.
Membership is open to all high school students.

Speech – David Wendt, Advisor

Participation on the speech team gives students the opportunities to refine and polish their communication skills in a competitive atmosphere. Speaking and performance skills are developed through practice. Students would benefit from participating in this activity if they see communications as part of them future careers. Speech Activities include:
1. Large Group–Tournaments are held in January and February for Large Group Events.
2. Individual Events–Competition is held in March and April.
3. Participants who receive Division I ratings at Districts advance to State competition. A nomination to participate at the All-State Festival is gained through a judge selection process.
