Physical Science (3) 9 Required Physical Science is an introduction to the basic ideas in physics and chemistry. This course is presented through lecture and laboratory instruction. The greatest emphasis falls on the student centered, activity orientated, laboratory phase of instruction. Biology A (3) 10 Required Come explore the wonders of Biology in this year course. This is a survey class in which genetics, human anatomy and physiology, plants and animals are studied. In addition, the relationship of living things and the environment is explored. Laboratory work will be part of the student's learning experience. Biology is for students who plan to pursue a post secondary education. Biology B (3) 10 Required Biology B is for those students who do not plan to work in a biological or health related field or pursue a four year college education. Every Day Biology was specifically designed to reach those students who have little interest in science in the past. It covers all the fundamental high school biology concepts in a format that is easy to understand and comprehend. The text continuously applies the study of biology to your everyday world, thereby making it real, relevant, and exciting. This course also fulfills the Biology requirement. Environmental Science (3) 11-12 Elective Prerequisite: Physical Science, Biology or Every Day Biology This course is designed to give the student the scientific background to help them understand the earth's changing environment. This course is presented in four segments: textbook readings, outside readings, current events, and laboratory experiences including field work. It will provide the background information necessary to make decisions related to environmental issues. The student will learn to appreciate nature and develop a concern to protect our environment. Career education in environmental science will also be presented during this course. Students will need a field notebook and a classroom notebook. Anatomy & Physiology (1) 11-12 Elective Prerequisite: Biology Recommended Prerequisite or Parallel: Chemistry This course will benefit students who will major in a science or science related fields, or a health related career. Studies will focus upon human anatomy, physiology and diseases. Biology Advanced Studies (2) 11-12 Elective Prerequisite: Biology Recommended Prerequisite or Parallel: Chemistry This course will benefit students who will major in a science or science related fields, or a health related career. It will more deeply develop specific topics in biology such as the cell, genetics, and the five kingdoms including bacteria, protista, fungi, plans, and animals. Chemistry (3) 11-12 Elective Prerequisite: Algebra II/Trig Explore the "Central Science,"Chemistry. Study matter, its structure, properties, composition, and the changes that matter undergoes. The results of chemistry are all about you. The plastics in your stereo, the toothpaste you brush with, the hair spray that fogs your room, the foods you eat and even the medicines that cure you; are all products of chemistry. Chemistry will provide the background that you will need for more specialized training at a college or technical school. Chemistry in the Community (CHEMCOM) (3) 11-12 Elective Prerequisite: Algebra or Applied Math I Not sure that you would like exploring the "Central Science," Chemistry? Studying matter, its structure, properties, composition, and the changes matter undergoes. You already know that the results of chemistry are all around you. College and technical school might be in your future; but, chemistry? Try CHEMistry in the COMmunity. Get some background in chemistry that you will need for more specialized training. Learn how chemistry effects you and your world. Use chemistry to solve problems in the everyday world Physics (3) 12 Elective Prerequisite or Parallel: Pre-calculus A person breathes...A bridge spans a mile-wide river...A child see a flower...A giant city is lit...A rocket soars to the stars...From the simplest human act to the most complex technical marvel, everything humankind does, sees, or hears depends on the workings of the laws of physics. Physics is the basic science of matter and motion. Come learn from Newton, Galileo, Edison, Einstein, Maxwell, Ohm, and Lawrence as mankind defines the limits of the universe. Please bring an open mind, imagination, and curiosity. Physics will provide the background that you will need for more specialized courses at a college or technical school.. Conceptual Physics (3) 12 Elective Prerequisite: Algebra I Are you curious about the physical world around you? Are you interested in falling objects, projectiles, magnets, electricity, waves, and sounds? Do you need a background in physics? Conceptual Physics will let you get your hands on the Concepts of Physics.
