SPECIAL NOTE:The State of Iowa requires all enrolled students to receive instruction in physical education and health.
Students are encouraged to mark all physical education clothing and shoes with their names. Padlocks: Furnished by the school.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION (1,2,3,4,)11-12REQUIRED
This course is designed to acquaint students with the basic physical education program through the use of lead-up activity and skill games. The course is to improve physical fitness, endurance, coordination, skill and strength through a regular fitness routine and the use of team and individual sports. Outdoor activities are offered. One-third of the class for 9th and l0th graders is devoted to the study of health, human growth and development including instruction regarding human sexuality, self-esteem, stress management, interpersonal relationships, and acquired immune deficiency syndrome. Parents may review and discuss the curriculum with the instructor. Parents, may file with a building principal a written request to have their child excused from a portion(s) of instruction in human growth and development.
EXEMPTION PROVISIONS PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Students may be exempt from physical education enrollment due to various provisions of the State Standards. Students may seek an exemption from enrollment in physical education under one of the following circumstances:
Grade 12 - Student is enrolled in a cooperative, work study, or other educational program authorized by the school which requires the student's absence from the school premises during the day.
Grades 9,10,11,12 - The Student wishes to enroll in an academic course not otherwise available. Students may waive physical education for (2) quarters during the course of a year for a sport. They may waive for the following:
First QuarterFall Sports: Football, cross country, volleyball, swimming
Second QuarterBasketball, wrestling (first half)
Third QuarterBasketball, wrestling (second half)
Fourth Quarter Golf, soccer, tennis, track
