    CHILDHOOD AND DEVELOPMENT (1,2)9-10-11-12ELECTIVE
    This course will emphasize learning about children. The developmental aspects of growth from prenatal to age six (6) are discussed. There will be observations of children and a play school experience with children. Special units include tour of OB Unit at the local hospital, clothing for children, feeding, and child safety.

    PARENTING (1,2)9-10-11-12ELECTIVE
    This course will cover family relationships as they relate to the development of children. There will be emphasis on early childhood to young adult. Other topics emphasized will be discipline, child abuse, the exceptional child, the handicapped child, and children of other cultures. Much of the above will be gained by giving the students a lab-type experience.

    CHILDHOOD AND DEVELOPMENT CLOTHING AND MANAGEMENT(1,2)9-10-11-12ELECTIVE Project Costs Minimum $15-20.

    This course teaches basic clothing construction principles and techniques. Garments suited to the individual needs and ability will be constructed. An introduction to the world of textiles and fabrics will be studied; as well as line, color, and design in relation to clothing. Student must provide sewing equipment and fabrics.

    CHILDHOOD AND DEVELOPMENT ADVANCED CLOTHING AND DESIGN (2)9-10-11-12ELECTIVE Prerequisite - Clothing Management & Construction Project Costs Minimum $15-$20

    This course deals with advanced clothing construction principles and techniques. Garments suited to the individual need and ability will be constructed. A brief study of historic costume and the fashion design world of today is also included in this course. Each student will choose which area to do concentrated work in during the semester. Tailoring, working with new fabrics, working with new skills, clothing economics and accessories will be included. Students must provide sewing equipment and fabric.

    CHILDHOOD AND DEVELOPMENT FOODS AND NUTRITION (1,2)9-10-11-12ELECTIVE

    This course includes a study of the basic facts of nutrition, meal planning and food preparation for the family and simple entertaining.

    CHILDHOOD AND DEVELOPMENT WORLD FOODS (1,2)9-10-11-12ELECTIVE Prerequisite - Foods and Nutrition

    This course presents a study of nutrition as it affects the health of the individual and future family. Meal planning, food purchasing, food preparation, cultural and foreign cookery are also included in the course.

    CHILDHOOD AND DEVELOPMENT HOME AND INTERIOR DESIGN (1,2)9-10-11-12ELECTIVE

    The goal of this course is to provide the student with the information and ability to decorate one's home with individuality, warmth, and good taste. To achieve this, the course of study includes: floor plans, furniture arrangement, window treatments, floor covering, selection and care of furniture, and home and furniture styles. A particular emphasis is on the study of color.

    CHILDHOOD AND DEVELOPMENT NEEDLEWORK AND CRAFTS (1,2)9-10-11-12ELECTIVE Project Costs $20

    This course is designed to study the textile and needlework crafts. The student will develop skill and make projects demonstrating proficiency in several of the following areas: folded star, crocheting, candlewicking, applique, crewel, embroidery, needlepoint, quilting, and wood crafts. Students must provide materials for each project.

    CHILDHOOD AND DEVELOPMENT FAMILY AND INDIVIDUAL HEALTH (3)9-10-11-12ELECTIVE

    This course will provide students an opportunity to study in greater depth personal health; food and nutrition; environmental health; safety and survival; family life; substance abuse and non-use; emotional and social health; health resources; prevention and control of disease, including sexually transmitted diseases. These subjects will be presented in the context of "wellness" of the individual to achieve optimum health. Students will also become aware of opportunities for careers in health related occupations. This course does not replace the required general survey of health education mandated by State Standards for all students.

    CHILDHOOD AND DEVELOPMENT INDEPENDENT LIVING (1,2)12ELECTIVE

    The Independent Living class is designed for the individual who will be living independently after high school. The class will include such units as: budgeting, single person, renting, decorating the apartment, applying for and keeping a job, and other aspects of daily life.
